Chapter 4: Boy or Girl?

10 weeks! It was time for the genetic testing for our baby.  They had an option to find out the gender with this test as well. So we opted in for that too.

At first we weren’t going to do a gender reveal, but I convinced Mr. Judd that he could hit a golf ball that would explode either blue or pink!

It was getting close to Derby day. The plan was for us to reveal the gender to our friends and family. I was unsure if I wanted to know the sex of the baby, but I decided I didn’t want to wait to find out. We did decide that it would be a surprise for my husband though.

I finally ordered the golf balls from Amazon!

They came with 1 blue and 1 pink ball each. I already knew the sex so I put two of the same color in one box.

Derby day was here, time to let everyone know (including my husband) what the sex of our baby was going to be.

The morning of we were getting ready, I made sure to get the golf balls out, in order to remember to take them. We were just chatting casually about the reveal and for some reason I said, I had to make sure I put two pinks balls in the box.

As soon as I said it I knew I had messed up! He looked at me as if I was joking. I started crying and said, “oh my goodness, I’m so sorry!” He wasn’t mad, just surprised.

I went downstairs to do something and when I came back upstairs he was in the shower, playing Carrie Underwood’s “All-American Girl”. It made me tear up, he was happy and obviously excited for a girl!

We went to my husband’s family farm for the Derby. I forgot to mention, no one except for our parents knew we were even pregnant! I had shirts made for us that had a horse on them, his said “Daddy” and mine said “Mommy” and then around my stomach it said “Baby”.

The time had come for us to first reveal we were pregnant, we had been wearing hoodies all day. I was starting to get hot, I was so relieved to finally take off the hoodie. His mom made the announcement and we took off our hoodies! Everyone was so surprised. We then told them that we were also going to have the gender reveal as well.

I bought these bracelets so that people could be Team Girl or Team Boy. I feel like it was about half and half.

The time came for Mr. Judd to hit the golf ball.

It’s a girl!!

Mr. Judd did a GREAT job at faking that this was news to him! Haha what a day to remember.
